US President Biden's Department of Justice has filed a brief requesting that immunity be granted to UNRWA employees who have been accused of working with HAMAS on Oct. 7!

Yes, those participating in the executions, beheadings, rape and torture of innocent Israelis. many of them young people celebrating a holiday in a woodland park next to their villages, others - families including the elderly, small children, and infants -- in their homes.  This brief is being filed even after Israel has provided ample evidence of their crimes! This, even though the UN Oversight Investigations confirmed the evidence against at least nine UNRWA employees. They have never been charged because the UN claims immunity for ALL  of it's employees. And worse, even though the UN  terminated a dozen workers, even these are not being held accountable.

How can anyone justify the fact that not only are these workers walking free, most of them are still employed and able to continue to act as terrorists and killers in any time, place or manner that they choose!

Israel has provided evidence that UNRWA workers committed such atrocities as murder, hostage-taking and even kidnapping the bodies of the dead and wounded. On September 26, UNRWA announced that they had terminated the contracts of a dozen employees who were accused of being involved in the massacre, promising that they would hold them accountable even through “criminal prosecution.”

“Since the U.N. has not waived their immunity in this case, its subsidiary organization, UNRWA, continues to enjoy absolute immunity from prosecution, and the lawsuit should be dismissed.”

The Scots who head the Church of Scotland appear to be suffering from a common malady whose cause is arrogance and whose most obvious symptom is blind ignorance.

Whatever is causing them to stubbornly and publicly refute proven historical fact must be very powerful, since it will surely make them a laughing stock to all educated historians.

Except for those brainwashed by PA teachers and leaders, even people who are anti-Israel, would be unlikely to publicly demonstrate such ignorance of historical fact.

You would think that outrageous myths of the dark ages of mankind would be long consigned to some dusty books in library archives. You would think. Most recently, a Saudi cleric repeats a charge that any educated, intelligent person would be expected to dismiss out of hand as nonsense. The trouble is, apparently not everyone is educated and/or intelligent. By the millions, anti-Semites from around the world not only believe the charge, they slaughter any Jew within reach in revenge for their ‘crimes’.

The vicious charge (blood libel) was first raised against the Jews in the year 1144. Jews were accused of murdering Christian children, draining their blood and using it in the Passover Matzot (unleavened bread). In those days ‘news’ traveled from person to person, growing with transmission, often inciting mobs. There was no way to verify the story and sometimes the more extreme the news, the faster it traveled. Over the centuries that followed, the charge was renewed and thousands of innocent Jews died all over Europe.

So, while this was an amazing charge for the time, it’s even more amazing that it appears in the sermons of Muslim clerics now in the 21st century. However, beyond belief is the fact that it is believed today. Thousands believe that it justifies not only the murder of individual Jews, but the total destruction of Israel and all Jews from the face of the earth! Blood Libel in Saudi Arabia  Watch TV Interview of 13 August 2012 with Saudi Cleric Salman Al-Odeh

That Jews who are forbidden to eat even of the blood of an animal slaughtered for food, makes this claim absurd. That doesn’t keep it from being repeated endlessly in anti-Semitic propaganda around the world, especially now among the Muslim Arab populations. Unfortunately, even today we see over and over the power of unverified and even purposefully started rumors among Arab populations. Even if ‘proven’ untrue, most of the people will believe that there was truth in it and mob violence, intended or not, is the result.

Nothing can rationally explain the extreme Christian accusations leveled against the Jews at this time: Jews killed babies and drank their blood!

In an article on historical Jewish persecution at Judaism Online, the author writes that…

…the most famous of all blood libel legends is that of the ritual murder of the child Hugh of Lincoln, England in 1255. The story was immortalized in a ballad so well-known in England and Scotland that is number 155 in the standard cannon of English and Scottish ballads compiled by Francis James Child in the 19th century. The best-know tale of ritual murder is the Prioress’s Tale, found in Chaucer’s 14th century classic work or early English fiction, Canterbury Tales.

Now why did Jews need blood in Christian opinion? This is a multiple-choice question:

  1. Jews suffered from hemorrhoids as a punishment for killing Jesus and drinking blood was the best cure for hemorrhoids at the time.
  2. All Jewish men menstruate and need a monthly blood transfusion.
  3. Jewish men, when they’re circumcised, lose so much blood because of that surgical procedure that they need to drink Christian babies’ blood.
  4. It’s the chief ingredient in matzah, and therefore prior to every Passover Jews would be requiring a large supply.
  5. All of the above.

What do you think the correct answer is? Shockingly, it’s (5)—all of the above.

This is a very important lesson in anti-Semitism. You can say anything about the Jews and people will believe it. [Italics added]

Today, we are less likely to face mobs with pitchforks and torches. We are more likely to face car bombs, terror attacks, missiles, chemical weapons, atomic weapons and whatever the enemy can find that will annihilate the most people in the most efficient manner.

The myth is absolutely outside the range of reality. It is the product of an ancient rumor mill, a tale given life by people ignorant of the Jews and their beliefs. The story was never an accurate description of an actual event. But the murder of every Jew who has ever died or will ever die because of it is actual and that’s a terrible price to pay for a myth.

Now, in propagating this myth, the Saudi cleric and others like him may indeed be igniting a regional fire that will become a nuclear war – World War III.

Most of what you see and read on political issues is slanted, ergo propaganda. It’s in and on the news. It’s in the history books. It’s in the documentaries. It’s in the images. It’s all over the Internet. And it’s on YouTube. Can you trust any source, then, to gain understanding, knowledge and wisdom? Yes, but only after you evaluate, test, verify and check multiple sources over time.

Unfortunately, it used to be “If it’s in a book, it must be true.” “If the newspaper prints it, it must be true.” And how much more so, “If you see it on a TV news show or documentary, it’s true.” The West used to claim their journalists were fighters for truth, transparency and freedom of the press to print the facts no matter how powerful the forces against it.

None of this is reliably true today. There is as much or more propaganda in the west as in the totalitarian countries of the so-called third world. The facts, whether printed or broadcast, in words or images, is distorted, manipulated to obfuscate the facts in order to protect and promote the powerful, the rich and the wannabe tyrants of the world.

The result of this is that those who have the understanding and access to search out the facts – and have motivation to do so – will not be fooled for long. However, the poor and/or the uneducated and indoctrinated who have no access to these sources (whether for monetary or physical/location reasons) remain vulnerable. They will often follow the most popular opinions or charismatic leaders, regardless of facts others try to expose. They are clay in the hands of those molding their forces. For this reason a well-educated public will be more likely to preserve its freedoms — and for this reason, today in the west, we see that the significant failure of the educational system is accompanied in measure by the advancement of anarchists, socialists and communists toward their ultimate goal of enslaving the masses – who don’t know what’s good for them, of course. Some weak societies have already lost any semblance of structure in terms of law, social mores, and community and await the firm hand – of those who DO know what’s good for them.

This is not local, but extends to the level of international relations – wars/piracy/terrorism – that disturb the ability of the common man to lead a normal, safe life in his society.

How does this apply to Israel? In a multitude of ways, often with life and death consequence.

The first victims of all forms of propaganda are the Arabs themselves, both those in Israel (including the PA) and in other Arab lands. It begins with the historical mythology that is still propagated to every generation and extends to current books, news, films and photos. They would not cynically examine a photo of a wounded child or a destroyed house for alterations, staging and editing, nor does it have any significance to them. They willingly themselves actually participate in such deceit for the sake of Islam. They won’t bother looking for the beginning or end of a video clip on YouTube to get context which changes the whole story. They never check the truth or the source of a rumor. They have no reason to doubt that something happened. If it didn’t, it becomes as it if did and there is an overwhelming culture of encouragement to demonize the Jews – and the Christians (Nigeria, Kenya, Sudan and in Israel!) at any opportunity. And they are taught that the end – the success of achieving Islamic world rule – justifies any and all means, from simple deceit to murder and terrorism.

Latest Example of PA Propaganda

PA: Israel spreads drugs
to destroy Palestinian society

One day after Iranian Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi was condemned internationally for saying that Jews and their Talmud
are responsible for international drug trafficking, no less than five articles in the official PA daily cited different Palestinian Authority
officials accusing Israel of having a policy to disseminate drugs among Palestinian youth.

The Governor of Jericho said that Israel “is encouraging and turning a blind eye to [drug] dealers and their efforts to distribute drugs, through a systematic policy to destroy Palestinian society, targeting the youth.” (click link below to continue article and see quotations from PA news)

PMW: Palestinian Media Watch

The literal facts of history are totally changed, especially regarding Jewish existence in the Land of Israel, the beginnings of Christianity and Islam.

Jewish antiquities and ancient sites are destroyed wherever possible.

Even those few who might wish to live their lives in peace find their children radicalized in school and are pressured to support the ‘jihad’ or be labeled a traitor to Islam, with dire consequences.

Watch this brief video for a clear and very public example of indoctrination:  PA TV to kids: Christians and Jews are inferior, cowardly and despised

The second victims, and no less the primary targets of this propaganda, are the western populations, especially the young people. For the most part they either have no remembrance, knowledge of or education in the history of the Middle East, so they are easily radicalized. Many have been comfortable all their lives and are looking for a purpose or a cause to feel important. (We have seen the results of foreign intervention in Gaza, Israel, and now in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Syria, and others. Thousands have died and so far the result looks likely to be anarchy or a tyrannical government of another kind).

Is Israel a Warmonger?

How can anyone seriously ask that question?

Why on earth would anyone whose home is essentially on the front lines want to start a war? Consider:

The talking heads dramatically proclaim: “Israeli will not inform the US of an impending strike on Iran.” Oh, those bad Israelis. Never mind that at the very top of the American hierarchy, the President himself announces repeatedly and publicly that Israeli will attack and when, making sure all who hear know that:

  • He is against it an Israeli attack;
  • Israel will be responsible for any harm coming to itself and to America;
  • He has a better way, and
  • He is the only one permitted to take any necessary action against Iran to ‘preserve world peace’. 2

Ergo, HE is the only one who can save the world and save Israel and it is really Israel who is the loose canon in the Middle East.

The American President and his administration spew forth the notion that there is plenty of time for diplomacy, a year or more before any action must be taken. Then the administration pressures Israeli officials to make public statements to support them (to prove how pro-Israeli they are, perhaps? Don’t forget the 2012 election is coming up!) And some Israeli’s are weak enough to toe the line!

That’s the message being broadcast in the US while in Israel we watch Iran’s ‘atomic clock’ ticking.

Israelis listen to the daily rants broadcast from Iran extolling the imminent total destruction of Israel. In addition, the Iranian Defense Minister now says that they won’t “wait to respond to an attack”. Translation: “We intend to strike first!”

Who do you believe? Consider:

  • Every citizen is essentially the primary target of the atomic missiles fired from Iran.
  • Every citizen is the primary target of the thousands of missiles from the Northern Border with Lebanon.
  • Syria’s Assad has already sent a paid invasion and has missiles ready in case any foreign power threatens him.
  • Gaza has thousands of missiles, rockets, anti-aircraft missiles, IED’s and suicide bombers at the ready on the southwest.
  • Syria has chemical weapons and they have no qualms about using them, possibly shared with Hamas and Hizbollah.

All of these weapons are available to any rogue government, revolutionary or terrorist group that can take them, including Al Qaeda cells.

The anti-Israel news media, US Admin, EU, UN and other international politicians, students and leftists are shouting that Israel is militaristic, a war monger, thirsting for action?

Really?

Is that what you believe? Consider:

Israel has a people’s army, a national draft. This army’s organization permits:

  • no hired guns,
  • no foreign mercenaries,
  • no religious jihadists,
  • no crusaders and
  • no empire builders or colonists.

None of these are controlling factors in Israel’s military structure. It is named the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and it’s sole purpose and reason for existence is exactly that: To defend the State of Israel¹  on behalf of every soldier’s home, parents, sisters and brothers, wife, children, cousins and neighbors. 2

Ask every responsible economist in the world and they will tell you that the Israeli economic success would be greater without the huge drain placed on the national budget by defense expenditures-4.85 percent of GDP, equal to 11.6 percent of the state budget 3.  Many social issues in Israel would be at least partially resolved if the expense for defense could be reduced. In addition, as in other countries, R&D resources currently devoted to military needs would be added to the very successful industrial R&D enterprise in Israel.

In addition, ask every Israeli reservist who must interrupt his studies, career, and family life for a minimum of 30 days a year to serve in the reserves. This continues until age 40. Does he really want to go to war?

Do you really think this is the life the founders of the state envisioned for the next generations? They were trying to set up an agricultural lifestyle working the land, raising animals, growing crops. They wanted a militaristic society?

It’s understandable, perhaps, that it may be very difficult for Americans and Europeans to understand and identify with Israelis, even if they are sympathetic to the existential dilemma Israel faces. It’s hundreds of years since they began to build or rebuild their societies. Most of them no longer have a national draft. But at least some of them ought to remember what it was like to defend their land, society and culture during the 2 world wars and the cold war?

War at home? Abroad?

Since the Vietnam war, Americans have not had a draft. Though Americans have voluntarily served and died in wars, since the Civil War, with a few exceptions, during these wars US soil was not under attack and obviously not the whole continent. In general, Americans have not had to fear that the enemy is at their door or that their children are in physical danger.

Until 9/11 most Americans thought of war in the Middle East as far away, between foreign peoples who cut off the heads of their enemies or stoned women in public on a regular basis. However, 9/11 suddenly showed that a brutal force from that same Middle East could attack the homeland. Even though shock and emotion seared a new awareness into the psyche of most Americans and the western world, for many, terrifying and threatening as it was, it was not on every doorstep. Many families sent husbands and sons to hunt down that cruel enemy and the distant Middle East suddenly came closer. A war was once again on the American newscasts. The fear of terrorism was awakened and with it a realization that harm can invade their lives, perhaps on a plane, at a shopping center, a church or a political rally. Yet still, at home, they felt safe.

What do you think? Were the Americans then warmongers?

They carried the war to a far away enemy in order to prevent attacks on their country. Only the extreme left would deny the US the right of their attempt to catch the perpetrators and prevent another threatened attack.

If your answer is no, then Israel too is NO warmonger!

The enemy of Israel is within and without, near and not far. An attack can reasonably be expected to occur in our bedrooms or our living rooms as easily as on a bus or in a hotel or restaurant. In Israel, even since the beginning of the legal settlement of the land, there has been no sense of safety. Home, the children’s kindergarten, the office, the restaurant, the public bus, the synagogue, the school, the lunch room at the University, and even the roads and byways have been and will be scenes of brutal attacks on men, women, children, grandparents, and infants. No one is immune, there is no safe place. But there are those who would dismiss this and deny Israel the right to exist at all.

Does that give another nation, another state with NO stake in that argument the legal or moral right to attack from across national borders? From Syria? From Iraq? From Lebanon? From Egypt? or from IRAN? I can’t think of any law on any books that permits them to do so. They have NO dog in the fight. Their only excuse is the ancient Islamic and Nazi-induced anti-Jewish vitriol. Perhaps you have read of the Arab visits to Hitler? You don’t know anything about this collaboration? Then you have a serious hole in your knowledge of one of the direct causes of current events–Current events that could escalate into a nuclear world war in your time.

Yet amazingly, in Israel, on the surface, life goes on ‘normally’:

Peace? Even in a period of relative ‘peace’, missiles fall on homes, schools, fields and streets, frequently, without warning, day or night, weekday or Sabbath. This is the reality that every Israeli, liberal or conservative, lives with every day of our lives.

Israelis work hard, often long hours, study, socialize like everywhere else. They are indeed far more politically aware and far more involved in the day-to-day social and military situations arising, if only on a discussion level, than the average citizen in other countries. A subconscious alertness, dormant until a siren goes off, the news is interrupted, or a telephone call brings back reality with sudden brutal fear. Then the cell phone networks fail as everyone calls friends and family to reassure themselves that they weren’t injured and emergency personnel report for duty. Israel is a small country – it has happened more than once that when the emergency crews arrive, they find a loved one or friend injured or killed.

That’s everyday life in Israel. Yet in an international survey, it was reported that on the whole, Israelis are happier and more satisfied with their lives than in other countries. Maybe that’s partly because we are focused in spite of all, not on war, but on peace. And yes, even with our fathers, sons, brothers and sisters all serving in the army — on the ‘front’ of the front lines.

Do you still think Israelis are warmongers? Do we want war?

No! We do not! But we do want to survive and we will defend our right to do so, here, in this place and in this time.

Indoctrination of the Next Generation:

Perhaps naively, my generation was taught to believe the history books, to trust the teachers, and to see history through the eyes of western public education. That belief was naive and inaccurate then, and it’s more out of place now as the distortion and rewriting of history has grown bolder in order to promote an ideological agenda. And what was taught under the rule of dictators or the traditions of various peoples was even less faithful to the political and social history their region and of the world than the distorted books of the west. While the peace seekers were sleeping, those seeking power and to wage the war to obtain it have been remembered and taken action: He who teaches the children forms the future. Following are some examples of incitement, hatred towards Israel and antisemitism, according to subject:

  1. The Jewish people – the textbooks are replete with antisemitic expressions of hatred and hostility towards the Jewish people, including references from the Koran attesting to the corrupt, dishonest character of the Jews, who are also anti-Islam. They claim that, according to the Talmud, the Jews believe that the human animal was created to serve them and that it is permitted to deceive the gentiles, who have satanic souls.
  2. Jerusalem – Israelis covet Jerusalem above all else. They burned the Al Aksa mosque in 1969 as part of the Zionist plan to take control of Haram al-Sharif (the Temple Mount) and to destroy the Muslim buildings there, in order to build their Temple. It is incumbent on the Arab army to liberate the mosques from the thieving conqueror.
  3. Zionism – Zionism is a threat to the Arabs, and all Arabs are obligated to fight it; the Zionist germ must be expunged from the Arab nation. Teachers’ guides for the 10th and 12th grades explain that Zionism is a racist movement that aspires to Judaize Palestine by expelling its Arab residents. Furthermore, Zionist ideology is more racist, extremist and aggressive than other ideologies (of the 20th century) and established a Jewish political entity in Palestine that threatens the security of the Arab homeland.
  4. Jihad – already in the 2nd grade, Palestinian pupils learn that Jordanian young men are eager to sacrifice their lives for the jihad, to defend the Arab character of Palestine. Another textbook states that the Arabs and the Muslims will fight the Jews who evicted them from their homes. In the 8th grade, the students learn that the usurpers have crossed all boundaries and therefore the time has come for jihad, to unsheathe the sharp sword.
  5. The Iz a-Din al-Kassam receives much praise in descriptions of Palestinian bravery, and the battle of Karama is described as resulting from the Zionist lust for expansion. Stone-throwers are also glorified in these books.
  6. Israel – The name “Israel” does not appear on the maps, and Jewish cities are not mentioned. Tel Aviv is called “Jaffa.” In the 5th grade, discussion is devoted to the question: Why must we fight the Jews and expel them from our land? In the 7th grade, the children learn that 1948 was the year of “the Great Crime,” when “the gang state” was established by seizing control of cities and villages and mistreating the residents.
  7. The “Right of Return” – Eighth-graders are taught a song about Jaffa, promising to return from the diaspora and the prisons. An 8th grade history textbook explains that Israel's close ties with imperialism made its establishment possible.

Textbooks in the schools indoctrinate the children with false history and hatred. But it’s not only the textbooks, not only the teachers….

The latest episode of “Tomorrow’s Pioneers,” broadcast last week on January 22 on Al Aqsa (Hamas) TV, features a young host asking a 10-year-old girl whether she was afraid of dying last year during the fighting between IDF soldiers and Hamas terrorists. No, I wasn’t afraid,” the little girl answers proudly. “I wished for Shahada (martyrdom) – Shahada for Allah.” IsraelNationalNews To celebrate the Muslim holiday of Ramadan, Palestinian TV has launched a new program called “The Best Mothers.“ But who constitutes the ”best mothers” according to Palestinians? Apparently ones whose children were suicide bombers who killed innocent Israelis and themselves, and hence, became “martyrs.” The 10-minute segment, that reportedly airs every day, features a different Palestinian mother in her home, talking about the children of whom she is most proud. - The Blaze

And it’s not only the government-controlled organized media…. The culture is infused with glorification of suicide martyrs, terrorist who are in Israeli prisons for cruel and bloody murder of infants, children, teens and elderly people, some in their beds, others eating a pizza. There are holidays, banners, demonstrations, and official celebrations of their bloody work. In addition acclamation of the martyr in song, poetry, the families often receive thousands of dollars from the government (funds often coming from Saudi Arabia or other foreign sources) and are themselves seen as heroes for giving their sons and daughters for their religious beliefs and ideology.

According to the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, approximately 87% of Palestinians support armed attacks against soldiers and settlers in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. There is little surprise that many also support those who sacrificed their lives to attack Israelis. In fact, they are viewed as heroes or martyrs and are openly celebrated. Carrying out suicide attacks for the sake of God and nation is considered not only a worthy thing to do, but is actively facilitated by some community and mosque leaders, schools and even the Palestinian media. Palestinian extremists feel that the suicide attacks are just and something that Westerners will never understand because of cultural and religious differences. Martyrdom is considered to be one of the highest achievements a person can attain. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) stated that martyrdom increases one’s “social status after death, as well as that of his or her family.” Martyrs are glorified and their names and faces often decorate walls and posters throughout many Palestinian communities. Some families even encourage their relatives and children to engage in martyrdom. Parents of suicide terrorists often feel a sense of pride for the retaliatory act their children have carried out against Israel. It is often believed that the act is a religious duty that is for the benefit of all Palestinians. According to a PBS interview by Martin Himmel, the father of a suicide terrorist stated that the martyr “gives his soul as a gift” to society by sacrificing themselves. The Palestinian beliefs concerning martyrdom are not unique to the Middle East and flourish in the Western world. For example, shortly after September 11, a Washington Post columnist visited an Islamic school in the wealthy Washington suburb of Potomac, Md. He was shocked to find that the corridors of the school were filled with the photos of Palestinian suicide bombers, even though the children who attended the school were American citizens and Arab diplomats, not Palestinians. [italics by author] TruTV

Until a generation arises that wishes to live in true peace with their neighbors, the world is in immanent danger of self-destruction. So it’s not looking positive over the short-term. When the central faith of the majority of a people is in a religion that promotes physical jihad and total rule over all non-believers, nothing but absolute defeat will still their bloody quest….and then (according to their teachings) only until they can become strong enough to raise the attack again.

UN Partition and the Birth of Israel:

An immeasurable amount misinformation and politically-motivated propaganda has been published in every possible venue, from academia to the latest docudramas. One who seeks the truth must hunt for and through thousands of source documents in order to shed the light of truth on an historical event. We know that “history” is indeed an imprecise recording by human, thus subjective, witnesses, often very distant from time and place of the event. Keeping that in mind, however, Eli E. Hertz, author of the article below has been found time after time to present objective information, supported by quotes from the relevant source documents and and the views of widely respected scholarship to present his concise snapshots of history. By doing so, he indeed penetrates the fog created by time, distance, error and deliberate distortion. - RKNEWS, SpotlightISRAEL

UN Resolution 181 – The Partition Plan

A “Green Light” for Jewish Statehood – A ‘Dead’ Blueprint for Peace November 29, 1947

- Eli E. Hertz (Myths and Facts - Resolution 181)

In 1947 the British put the future of western Palestine into the hands of the United Nations, the successor organization to the League of Nations which had established the Mandate for Palestine. A UN Commission recommended partitioning what was left of the original Mandate – western Palestine – into two new states, one Jewish and one Arab [Not a Palestinian state]. Jerusalem and its surrounding villages were to be temporarily classified as an international zone belonging to neither polity.

What resulted was Resolution 181 [known as the 1947 Partition Plan], a non-binding recommendation to partition Palestine, whose implementation hinged on acceptance by both parties – Arabs and Jews.

The resolution was adopted on November 29, 1947 in the General Assembly by a vote of 33-12, with 10 abstentions. Among the supporters were the United States and the Soviet Union, as well as other nations including France and Australia. The Arab nations, including Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia denounced the plan on the General Assembly floor and voted as a bloc against Resolution 181 promising to defy its implementation by force.

The resolution recognized the need for immediate Jewish statehood (and a parallel Arab state), but the ‘blueprint’ for peace became a moot issue when the Arabs refused to accept it. Subsequently, de facto [In Latin: realities] on the ground in the wake of Arab aggression (and Israel’s survival) became the basis for UN efforts to bring peace.

Resolution 181 then lost its validity and relevance.

Aware of Arabs’ past aggression, Resolution 181, in paragraph C, calls on the Security Council to:

“Determine as a threat to the peace, breach of the peace or act of aggression, in accordance with Article 39 of the Charter, any attempt to alter by force the settlement envisaged by this resolution.” [italics by author]

The ones who sought to alter by force the settlement envisioned in Resolution 181 were the Arabs who threatened bloodshed if the United Nations was to adopt the Resolution:

“The [British] Government of Palestine fear that strife in Palestine will be greatly intensified when the Mandate is terminated, and that the international status of the United Nations Commission will mean little or nothing to the Arabs in Palestine, to whom the killing of Jews now transcends all other considerations. Thus, the Commission will be faced with the problem of how to avert certain bloodshed on a very much wider scale than prevails at present. … The Arabs have made it quite clear and have told the Palestine government that they do not propose to co-operate or to assist the Commission, and that, far from it, they propose to attack and impede its work in every possible way. We have no reason to suppose that they do not mean what they say.” [italics by author]

Arabs’ intentions and deeds did not fare better after Resolution 181 was adopted:

“Taking into consideration that the Provisional Government of Israel has indicated its acceptance in principle of a prolongation of the truce in Palestine; that the States members of the Arab League have rejected successive appeals of the United Nations Mediator, and of the Security Council in its resolution 53 (1948) of 7 July 1948, for the prolongation of the truce in Palestine; and that there has consequently developed a renewal of hostilities in Palestine.”

The conclusion:

“Having constituted a Special Committee and instructed it to investigate all questions and issues relevant to the problem of Palestine, and to prepare proposals for the solution of the problem, and

Having received and examined the report of the Special Committee (document A/364). … Recommends to the United Kingdom, as the mandatory Power for Palestine, and to all other Members of the United Nations the adoption and implementation, with regard to the future Government of Palestine, of the Plan of Partition with Economic Union set out below; …” [italics by author].

In the late 1990s, more than 50 years after Resolution 181 was rejected by the Arab world, Arab leaders suddenly recommended to the General Assembly that UN Resolution 181 be resurrected as the basis for a peace agreement. There is no foundation for such a notion.

Resolution 181 was the last of a series of recommendations that had been drawn up over the years by the Mandator and by international commissions, plans designed to reach an historic compromise between Arabs and Jews in western Palestine. The first was in 1922 when Great Britain unilaterally partitioned Palestine. This did not satisfy the Arabs who wanted the entire country to be Arab. Resolution 181 followed such proposals as the Peel Commission (1937); the Woodhead Commission (1938); two 1946 proposals that championed a bi-national state; one proposed by the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry in April 1946 based on a single state with equal powers for Jews and Arabs; the Morrison-Grady Plan raised in July 1946 which recommended a federal state with two provinces – one Jewish, one Arab. Every scheme since 1922 was rejected by the Arab side, including decidedly pro-Arab ones because these plans recognized Jews as a nation and gave Jewish citizens of Mandate Palestine political representation.

Arabs Rejected the “Unbalanced” Partition Plan

The UN International Court of Justice (ICJ) uses the term “unbalanced”

in describing the reason for Arab rejectionism of Resolution 181. This description hardly fits reality. Seventy-seven percent of the landmass of the original Mandate for the Jews was excised in 1922 to create a fourth Arab state – Trans-Jordan (today Jordan).

In a statement by Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, the representative of the Jewish Agency for Palestine to the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP), he had that to say about fairness, balance, and justice:

“According to David Lloyd George, then British Prime Minister, the Balfour Declaration implied that the whole of Palestine, including Transjordan, should ultimately become a Jewish state. Transjordan had, nevertheless, been severed from Palestine in 1922 and had subsequently been set up as an Arab kingdom. Now a second Arab state was to be carved out of the remainder of Palestine, with the result that the Jewish National Home would represent less than one eighth of the territory originally set aside for it. Such a sacrifice should not be asked of the Jewish people.”

Referring to the Arab States established as independent countries since the First World War, he said:

“17,000,000 Arabs now occupied an area of 1,290,000 square miles, including all the principal Arab and Moslem centres, while Palestine, after the loss of Transjordan, was only 10,000 square miles; yet the majority plan proposed to reduce it by one half. UNSCOP proposed to eliminate Western Galilee from the Jewish State; that was an injustice and a grievous handicap to the development of the Jewish State.” [italics by author].

Arab’s Aggression Before and After the Adoption of Resolution 181

Following passage of Resolution 181 by the General Assembly, Arab countries took the dais to reiterate their absolute rejection of the recommendation and intention to render implementation of Resolution

181 a moot question by the use of force. These examples from the transcript of the General Assembly plenary meeting on November 29, 1947 speak for themselves:

“Mr. JAMALI (Iraq): … We believe that the decision which we have now taken … undermines peace, justice and democracy. In the name of my Government, I wish to state that it feels that this decision is antidemocratic, illegal, impractical and contrary to the Charter …

Therefore, in the name of my Government, I wish to put on record that Iraq does not recognize the validity of this decision, will reserve freedom of action towards its implementation, and holds those who were influential in passing it against the free conscience of mankind responsible for the consequences.”

“Amir. ARSLAN (Syria): … Gentlemen, the Charter is dead. But it did not die a natural death; it was murdered, and you all know who is guilty. My country will never recognize such a decision [Partition]. It will never agree to be responsible for it. Let the consequences be on the heads of others, not on ours.”

“H. R. H. Prince Seif El ISLAM ABDULLAH (Yemen): The Yemen delegation has stated previously that the partition plan is contrary to justice and to the Charter of the United Nations. Therefore, the Government of Yemen does not consider itself bound by such a decision … and will reserve its freedom of action towards the implementation of this decision.”

The Partition Plan was met not only by verbal rejection on the Arab side but also by concrete, bellicose steps to block its implementation and destroy the Jewish polity by force of arms, a goal the Arabs publicly declared even before Resolution 181 was brought to a vote.

Arabs not only rejected the compromise and took action to prevent establishment of a Jewish state but also blocked establishment of an Arab state under the partition plan not just before the Israel War of Independence, but also after the war when they themselves controlled the West Bank (1948-1967), rendering the recommendation ‘a still birth.’

The UN itself recognized that Resolution 181 had not been accepted by the Arab side, rendering it a dead issue: On January 29, 1948, the First Monthly Progress Report of the UN-appointed Palestine Commission charged with helping put Resolution 181 into effect was submitted to the Security Council (A/AC.21/7). Implementation of Resolution 181 hinged not only on the five member states appointed to represent the UN (Bolivia, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Panama, Philippines) and Great Britain, but first and foremost on the participation of the two sides who were invited to appoint representatives. The Commission then reported:

“The invitation extended by the [181] resolution was promptly accepted by the Government of the United Kingdom and by the Jewish Agency for Palestine, both of which designated representatives to assist the commission. … As regards the Arab Higher Committee, the following telegraphic response was received by the Secretary-General on 19 January:

ARAB HIGHER COMMITTEE IS DETERMINED PRESIST [PERSIST] IN REJECTION PARTITION AND IN REFUSAL RECOGNIZE UN[O] RESOLUTION THIS RESPECT AND ANYTHING DERIVING THEREFROM [THERE FROM]. FOR THESE REASONS IT IS UNABLE [TO] ACCEPT [THE] INVITATION.”

The UN Palestine Commission’s February 16, 1948 report (A/AC.21/9) to the Security Council noted that Arab-led hostilities were an effort

“To prevent the implementation of the [General] Assembly’s plan of partition, and to thwart its objectives by threats and acts of violence, including armed incursions into Palestinian territory.”

On May 17, 1948 – after the invasion began, the Palestine Commission designed to implement 181 adjourned sine die [Latin: without determining a date] after the General Assembly appointed a United Nations Mediator in Palestine, which relieves the United Nations Palestine Commission from the further exercise of its responsibilities.

Some thought the Partition Plan could be revived, but by the end of the war, Resolution 181 had become a moot issue as realities on the ground made the establishment of an armistice-line (the “Green Line”)

– a temporary ceasefire line expected to be followed by peace treaties

– the most constructive path to solving the conflict.

A July 30, 1949 working paper of the UN Secretariat entitled The Future of Arab Palestine and the Question of Partition noted further that:

“The Arabs rejected the United Nations Partition Plan so that any comment of theirs did not specifically concern the status of the Arab section of Palestine under partition but rather rejected the scheme in its entirety.”

By the time armistice agreements were reached in 1949 between Israel and its immediate Arab neighbors (Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Trans-Jordan) with the assistance of UN Mediator Dr. Ralph Bunche, Resolution 181 had become irrelevant, and the armistice agreements addressed new realities created by the war. Over subsequent years, the UN simply abandoned the recommendations of Resolution 181, as its ideas were drained of all relevance by events. Moreover, the Arabs continued to reject 181 after the war when they themselves controlled the West Bank (1948-1967) which Jordan invaded in the course of the war and annexed illegally.

Attempts by Palestinians to ‘roll back the clock’ and resuscitate Resolution 181 more than six decades after they rejected it ‘as if nothing had happened’ are a baseless ploy designed to use Resolution

181 as leverage to bring about a greater Israeli withdrawal from parts of western Palestine and to gain a broader base from which to continue to attack an Israel with even less defendable borders. Both Palestinians and their Arab brethren in neighboring countries rendered the plan null and void by their own subsequent aggressive actions.

Professor Stone wrote about this ‘novelty of resurrection’ in 1981 when he analyzed a similar attempt by pro-Palestinian ‘experts’ at the UN to rewrite the history of the conflict (their writings were termed “Studies”). Stone called it “revival of the dead”

“To attempt to show … that Resolution 181(II) ‘remains’ in force in 1981 is thus an undertaking even more miraculous than would be the revival of the dead. It is an attempt to give life to an entity that the Arab states had themselves aborted before it came to maturity and birth. To propose that Resolution 181(II) can be treated as if it has binding force in 1981, [E.H., the year the book was written] for the benefit of the same Arab states, who by their aggression destroyed it ab initio, [In Latin: From the beginning] also violates ‘general principles of law,’ such as those requiring claimants to equity to come ‘with clean hands,’ and forbidding a party who has unlawfully repudiated a transaction from holding the other party to terms that suit the later expediencies of the repudiating party. [italics by author].

Resolution 181 had been tossed into the waste bin of history, along with the Partition Plans that preceded it.

Israel’s Independence is not a Result of a Partial Implementation of the Partition Plan

Resolution 181 has no legal ramifications – that is, Resolution 181 recognized the Jewish right to statehood, but its validity as a potentially legal and binding document was never consummated. Like the proposals that preceded it, Resolution 181’s validity hinged on acceptance by both parties of the General Assembly’s recommendation.

Cambridge Professor Sir Elihu Lauterpacht, Judge ad hoc of the International Court of Justice, a renowned expert on international law, clarified that from a legal standpoint, the 1947 UN Partition Resolution had no legislative character to vest territorial rights in either Jews or Arabs. In a monograph relating to one of the most complex aspects of the territorial issue, the status of Jerusalem, Judge, Sir Lauterpacht wrote that any binding force the Partition Plan would have had to arise from the principle pacta sunt servanda, [In Latin: treaties must be honored – the first principle of international law] that is, from agreement of the parties at variance to the proposed plan. In the case of Israel, Judge, Sir Lauterpacht explains:

“The coming into existence of Israel does not depend legally upon the Resolution. The right of a State to exist flows from its factual existence-especially when that existence is prolonged shows every sign of continuance and is recognized by the generality of nations.”

Reviewing Lauterpacht’s arguments, Professor Stone, a distinguished authority on the Law of Nations, added that Israel’s “legitimacy” or the “legal foundation” for its birth does not reside with the United Nations’ Partition Plan, which as a consequence of Arab actions became a dead issue. Professor Stone concluded:

“The State of Israel is thus not legally derived from the partition plan, but rests (as do most other states in the world) on assertion of independence by its people and government, on the vindication of that independence by arms against assault by other states, and on the establishment of orderly government within territory under its stable control.”

The Big Lie:

The PLO aka Palestinian Authority, its leader Abbas and his henchmen only want
a small peaceful state along the pre-1967 borders.

Evidence to the contrary? There’s so much, it’s hard to decide where to start, what to put in and what to leave out. Certainly no person who really wants to know the truth doesn’t already know it and doesn’t need this blog. So, is it possible to ‘inform’ one who doesn’t REALLY want to be informed? Probably not, but here goes…

1. Background

Take a look at important parts of the PLO National Covenant of 1964, amended in 1968, and still the effective foundation on which decisions are taken and policies established yet today (see end of article for references).

The Palestinian National Covenant or Palestinian National Charter — transliterated as al-Mithaq al-Watani al-Filastini was written by Ahmad Shukeiri, the first chairman of the PLO. This ‘covenant’ or ‘charter’ was adopted in 1964 forming the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) in what was then Jordanian-ruled eastern Jerusalem. It basically stated the aims of the organization.

Another document known as the Basic Constitution or Fundamental Law of the PLO was approved as the basis for structure and procedures. Changes were made and articles added: Following the 1967 war when Israel took the whole of Jerusalem and the western bank of the Jordan river from Jordan, some specific changes were made which more narrowly defined people who would be known as ‘Palestinians’. At this time “Jews” who from before the time of the British Mandate had been included in the category of “Palestinians” were removed.

The initial articles call for Palestinian unity in armed struggle, deny the legitimacy of the establishment of Israel, deny the existence of a Jewish people with a historical or religious connection to Palestine, and label Zionism a racist, imperialist, fanatic, fascist, aggressive, colonialist political movement that must be eliminated from the Middle East for the sake of world peace. 1

The argument is put forward with “proof” (including a large number of conflicting quotes from letters and public declarations, some by Arafat himself to President Clinton, and in official documents given to the US and the UN as part of various negotiations). These state that the Covenant has been changed and these provisions eliminated. But in fact, all are verbal and written communications in English translation and disputed by the fact that the original charter of 1968 remains unchanged and in force. This is testified to by Arafat in the following statement:

The text of the Palestinian National Covenant remains as it was and no changes whatsoever were made to it. This has caused it to be frozen, not annulled. The drafting of the new National Covenant will take into account the extent of Israeli fulfillment of its previous and coming obligations… evil and corrupt acts are expected from the Israeli side… The fact that the PNC did not hold a special session to make changes and amendments in the text of the National Covenant at this stage… was done to defend the new Covenant from being influenced by the current Israeli dictatorship. 2

So, though some changes were even voted on (in 1996, even voiding the part that denied Israel’s right to exist), the text of the legal charter was never changed. No matter how many times in the light of the cameras and presence of Prime Ministers, Presidents and the whole world, it is stated that they recognize Israel, nothing has changed and certainly no specific borders for an Israeli state in the territory of “Palestine” have ever been described or approved in the charter.

Palestine (Arabic: Filastin/Filas??n/Falas??n/Filis??n), officially declared as the State of Palestine (Arabic: Dawlat Filastin) is a state that was proclaimed in exile in Algiers on 15 November 1988, when the PLO’s National Council (PNC) adopted the unilateral Palestinian Declaration of Independence. At the time of the 1988 declaration, the PLO did not exercise control over any territory and its claimed territory remains under Israeli occupation. It claims the Palestinian territory and has designated Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine despite Israeli control. 3

2. Current Events

So, when Abbas comes to the UN waving a banner or showing a map of Palestine without the State of Israel in its place, it is clear that what it SEEMS to say is what it DOES say. He knows that many, perhaps a majority, just won’t believe he MEANS it. Sound familiar?

When the head of PLO holds this model and demands a PA state based on the 1967 borders, he is NOT saying ‘and forever limited to’ such borders. For him, it is just one step forward in negotiations. A: ‘stop settlements’. Israel stopped. B: ‘stop settlements AND 1967 borders. C: if Israel looks pressured and may give in to that, D: add the right of return. He knows that whether Israel agrees or doesn’t he gets the message out to Palestinian supporters and they will pressure their governments, rioting in the streets and universities to achieve these ends. But will Abbas (or the next PLO Chairman) accept an agreement then? NO, of course not. For then the next step is E. push back toward the 1948 armistice lines. All along use Arabs living outside of the Israel to make claims for return and ‘return’ of land (which quite possible was Jewish-owned prior to the riots during the Mandate).

Abbas Zaki, a senior member of the Fatah Central Committee told Al Jazeera television on September 23rd that any negotiated “settlement” should be based on 1967 borders…..But listen further. Zaki then goes on to say, “When we say that the settlement should be based upon these borders, President (Abbas) understands, we understand, and everybody knows that the greater goal cannot be accomplished in one go.”

If at any stage along this line of negotiations, physical war seems profitable instead of or alongside a renewed intifada, terror or assassinations, then it too is always an option. This will depend on how much money the PA can accrue and how strong a limit the US/UN and EU place on Israel’s determination to fight back. It will also depend on the participation of Hizbollah, Syria, Iran, Jordan, Hamas and Egypt. Anyone following the news knows that this is a matter of preparedness and opportunity, often instigated by a planned provocation. Any and all of these stages can be re-ordered or skipped, so the time line is not clear. But this indeed the direction and the goal, made even more obvious by the Palestinian State request documents submitted in September by Abbas to the UN.

3. Petition to UN

Making false or deceptive statements (lying, in western parlance) is a strategic tactic in war — whether physical or diplomatic. Blatantly used and condoned in the East, it is secretly used and universally condemned when exposed in the West. But it is widely used in normal foreign discourse and in positions of power by both government and civilians.

Think about it this way: Misleading the enemy in a time of war is justified by all cultures. The Arabs consider themselves in a constant state of war with Israel as a foreign entity in territory they consider theirs, so they can’t be faulted if the western citizens allow themselves to believe and act on statements made or even documents issued during negotiations and under duress employed by foreign powers to try to force compliance with their wishes.

In addition, if those Western leaders who should know better build their foreign policy decisions on such actions or information, it is either deliberate self-deceit or intentional deceit of their constituents. YOU need to know the truth.

Therefore, Palestinians can’t be blamed if the non-Arab, non-Islamic peoples choose to ignore or deny the existence of this generational state of war. And of course, it is understandable that the Palestinians call it a victory when people believe and base their own policies on PA statements made or even documents signed under duress that have no relationship to their real goal. After all, in most cases the truth is easily discovered if one wants to find it.

At the UN to from the documents submitted by Abu Abbas:

This application for membership is being submitted based on the Palestinian people’s natural, legal and historic rights and based on United Nations General Assembly resolution 181(II) of 29 November 1947 as well as the Declaration of Independence of the State of Palestine of 15 November 1988 and the acknowledgment by the General Assembly of this Declaration in resolution 43/177 of 15 December 1988.4

It is notable that the letter gives such prominence to resolution 181, the 1947 “partition” resolution which recommended the partition of  Palestine without the consent of its indigenous people. 4

The Palestinian Authority is telling its people that peace with Israel is not a goal. Instead, the PA says that all of Israel is “Palestine,” and that no compromise is acceptable because this principle is “the only red line.” This message was expressed by the regular cartoonist, Muhammad Sabaaneh, in the official PA daily.

Published this week, his cartoon displayed a map of all of Israel (excluding the Golan Heights) and the PA areas, with the following text written across the map: 5

Israel (temporarily aka Palestine) Once Was and Now Is Israel

Palestinian claims of uninterrupted Arab hegemony in Jerusalem and the Land once and now known as Israel for thousands of years is emphatically disproved by the easily accessible archeological evidence in the ancient city of Jerusalem and surroundings. Whether or not you elect to study the genetic, regional, cultural and religious origins of the peoples now living in this tiny strip of land, facts exist that give witness to thousands of years of Jewish history in the Land of Israel. While you may not accept the authority of the ancient Jewish texts (as seen for example in the scrolls of Qumran and the Aleppo codex), you cannot avoid the testimony of history as revealed by the stones themselves. And if you distrust the Jewish writings, then take a look at the widespread writings of nations who have invaded, conquered and been conquered in this land. They agree on time and place of many significant events with each other and with the exposed physical evidence.

It is amazing and absurd that over the last 60 plus years we have witnessed a mass worldwide acceptance of wild historical claims propagated by the leaders of the PLO with the help of world politicians and a willing media. Internalization of this information as fact is not only to be found among those who have no grounding in Asian-Middle Eastern social and religious history, but is propagated among those who claim to be highly educated.

For the uninformed perhaps easy acceptance is emotional, an instinctive identification with a group presenting itself as the underdog, but for others there is an agenda, political, economic or social. The politicians are using a forged history to foment international opinion against Israel for their own benefit while knowing full well true history. They twist and erase the facts, deciding the logos, mantras and emotionally loaded words to achieve their purpose. The result? With money and media noise, they are guilty of stirring mobs to violence and fueling a fire that may engulf the Middle East and spread to the whole civilized world.

Let’s begin with Palestine. It’s easy to find the origin and history of the word.

Here’s one source:

The name Palestine refers to a region of the eastern Mediterranean coast from the sea to the Jordan valley and from the southern Negev desert to the Galilee lake region in the north. The word itself derives from “Plesheth”, a name that appears frequently in the Bible and has come into English as “Philistine”. Plesheth, (root palash) was a general term meaning rolling or migratory. This referred to the Philistine’s invasion and conquest of the coast from the sea. The Philistines were not Arabs nor even Semites, they were most closely related to the Greeks originating from Asia Minor and Greek localities. They did not speak Arabic. They had no connection, ethnic, linguistic or historical with Arabia or Arabs. (Origin of the Name)

The pronunciation of Philistine as transliterated into English was Palestine – Falestin when transliterated into Arabic. Therefore the name itself makes no claim of the history of a people, but instead is one of the several names applied to the variations of a geographical are ruled by , depending on who was ruling. Any citizens including Jews, Muslims and Christians, who live permanently in Israel: Palestinian Jews, Palestinian Christians, and Palestinian Muslims. Once the State of Israel was established, the Palestinian Jews began to refer to themselves as Israelis. The PLO then hijacked the name and invented a genetic history for a mix of tribal peoples of Arab descent and Muslim faith who had lived in the area for varied periods of time. Until that time there was never a “separate people” called Palestinians and never an identifiable nationhood for an Arabic-speaking united people under that name.

Recently the news headlines in Arab movies, publications and, worst of all, in children’s school books show ‘historical proofs’ that all of the cities located in the State of Israel are historically ‘Palestinian Arab’, historically built with ancient Arabic names and lived in by the” Palestinian” Arabs. For example:

  • Jerusalem, capital of the nation of Israel/Judea (1000 BCE – 70 CE), mentioned 670 times in the Hebrew Bible. First reference: Joshua 10:1; – PA Arabic: Al-Quds
  • Hebron, first capital of the tribe of Judah, mentioned 73 times in the Hebrew Bible. First reference: Genesis 13:18; – PA Arabic: Al-Khalil
  • Atarot, mentioned four times in the Hebrew Bible. First reference: Numbers 32:3; PA Arabic: Atara
  • Shechem, capital of Israel after the nation divided [922 BCE], mentioned 64 times in the Hebrew Bible (including a small number of references to two people of that name). First reference: Genesis 33:18; – PA Arabic: Nablus
  • Ashkelon, a Philistine city, mentioned nine times in the Hebrew Bible. First reference: Judges 1:18 – PA Arabic: Askelan
    [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Is’haq Feleifel, July 1, 2011] from the article and translation)
‘Palestinians’ claim Jerusalem, Hebron and others had Arabic names

According to the Ottoman census of 1882, Palestine had a pop. of 41,000 Muslims including non-Arabs. However, by 1889, the Jews were Jerusalem’s majority- 25,000 in a pop. of 40,000. This small Arabic-speaking population included Arabs and Jews and during this time the places were called by Arabic names. These often sounded similar to, were a transliteration of , or were translations of the original name, thus helping to preserve the ancient identification. Now these original names have been or are being restored.

Strange isn’t it, that in order to conquer a land (Israel) and vanquish a people (the Jews), a people and a history had to be invented out of whole cloth? But isn’t it stranger still that in the day of so much information and of international interaction, so many would believe and even die to prove the lie!?

Ignorance is no excuse!

IGNORANCE IS NO EXCUSE!

The tentacles of technology reaching into every available space in our lives have made us all cripples! How so? We read an SMS, hear talk radio, watch the talking heads on the flat screen – each and every one trying to convince us to believe them; we see the headlines of the dailies discarded on the streets, chat over the ‘net, receive so many newsletters we can barely read the first paragraph of most of them, and an info search gives us 400 million responses. It’s not that we have insufficient information available – we are drowning in information!

So why don’t we know everything we need to know? Why don’t we know the facts? Why did we go through life thinking Pluto is a planet only to find we’ve been duped since kindergarten? And how dare ‘they’ tell us now that eating too many eggs won’t raise our cholesterol after a whole generation has suffered pangs of guilt with every egg we ate?!

The key here is first to want the truth then to seek the facts, to filter the information, find reliable sources. Then we must determine the truth by verifying what we have found with other reliable sources. It’s impossible to reject intentional lies and propaganda if we don’t expose it to the light of truth and logic and test it.

The rumors won’t crash mailing lists, waste paper and fill airwaves if the humans don’t pass them on to ’10 friends’.

Truth seekers compare reliable sources, check opposing views and continually re-verify as new facts become known.

Others will continue to live in ignorance and say they just didn’t know or understand. But at the end of the day each one of us is responsible for the sides we take, issues we support (or not) and ignorance will be no excuse.

WHOSE HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSED?

Whose human rights are abused on massive basis? A timeless Myths and Facts article provides a surprising view of daily life in Israel and shines the light of truth into one of the many dark corners of propaganda: the humiliation of the Checkpoints.

Israelis are so accustomed to living in this distorted reality that they mostly ignore it. But when they do notice, when security is tightened, they ask themselves: Who really lives in the Ghetto? Perhaps you in Europe and America might take a new look at YOUR situation: Can you go about as freely as you once did? Can you fly without an intensive search and take whatever you want with you? “They” caused this… but who are “They”?

Eli Hertz of "Myths and Facts" provides a picture of reality

Myths and Facts vs. CBS 60 Minutes

“Time Running Out For A Two-State Solution?” / CBS News, January 25, 2009

Bob Simon:

“Palestinians … when they want to travel from one town to another, they have to submit to humiliating delays at checkpoints and roadblocks.
There are more than 600 of them on the West Bank.”

"Bob, Who is Humiliating Whom?" / Myths and Facts, January 27, 2009

Eli E. Hertz:

Bob, you say Palestinian Arabs feel humiliated and harassed when Israeli authorities search them and their belongings; when they are prevented from traveling freely because of checkpoints, roadblocks, closures and curfews. You say they feel “corralled.”

Bob, in Israel, every Israeli is searched numerous times during the course of a single day. Israelis are asked to open their bags and purses for inspection. In most cases, they are subjected to body searches with a metal detector every time they enter a bank or a post office, pick up a bottle of milk at the supermarket, enter a mall or train station, or visit a hospital or medical clinic. Young Israeli men and women are physically frisked in search of suicide belts before they enter crowded nightclubs.

As a matter of routine, Israelis’ car trunks are searched every time they enter a well-trafficked parking lot. Daily, their cars pass through roadblocks that cause massive traffic jams when security forces are in hot pursuit of suicide bombers believed to have entered Israel.

Israelis are searched not only when they go out for a cup of coffee or a slice of pizza, but also when they go to the movies or a concert, where the term “dressed to kill” has an entirely different meaning.

These ordinary daily humiliations now extend to similar searches when Israelis go to weddings or Bar Mitzvahs. No one abroad talks about the humiliation Jews in Israel are subjected to, having to write at the bottom of wedding invitations and other life cycle events, “The site will be secured [by armed guards]” – to ensure relatives and friends will attend and share their joyous occasion.

One out of four Israeli children, ages 11 to 15, fear for their lives. One out of three report they fear for the lives of their family members, and more than a third report they have changed their patterns of travel and social lives due to security concerns.

Bob, these ubiquitous security checks do not exist in Arab cities and towns in Israel (or, for that matter, in Judea and Samaria) because those places are not and never have been targets of Palestinian terrorism. In fact, the average Israeli is “humiliated and harassed” by being searched far more times a day than the average Palestinian. Not one human rights group, nor you, has so much as noted this massive intrusion into the rights of privacy and person imposed on Israelis.

To date, no one protests the fact that, since the 1970s, Jewish schoolchildren in Israel are surrounded by perimeter fences, with armed guards at the schoolyard gates, as if their schools were the domiciles of Mafiosi.

Not one Arab village in Israel or the Territories has a perimeter fence around it. Guards are not required at Arabic shops, cafes, restaurants, movie theaters, wedding halls or schools – either in Israel or in the Territories. Palestinians also do not need armed guards to accompany every school trip, youth movement hike or campout. They are not targets of terrorism.

Countless Israelis in sensitive areas within the Green Line – not only in the Territories, but also in Jewish towns, villages and bedroom suburbs – are “ghettoized” behind high fences.

Many Israeli motorists avoid major arteries that pass through Arab areas of Israel, while Arab citizens and Palestinians from the Territories continue to enter Jewish cities and go about their business without peril. Israelis are told, in effect, to disguise themselves when traveling abroad – not to speak Hebrew in public and not to wear garments that reveal their Jewish-Israeli origins. Even Israel’s national airline – El Al – has been forced to remove its logo from the tails of its aircraft at certain airports, out of concern for the safety of its passengers. This followed several attempts to down Israeli civilian aircraft with missiles. On the other hand, Arabs who frequent Jewish cities and towns in Israel wear their traditional Arab headgear without fear of being attacked or harassed.

Bob, all this begs the question: Who are the victims and who are the victimizers? Who are the ones being harassed and humiliated? Palestinian Arabs or Israelis?
